Ensuring the well-being and proper integration of your Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW) is a priority for both employers and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore. To facilitate this, MOM mandates that all first-time MDWs attend two interviews within their first year of employment. Partnering with a reputable maid agency in Singapore can help you navigate these requirements seamlessly.

Purpose of the MDW Interview

The primary objective of these interviews is to assess how well your MDW is adapting to her new working and living environment. This initiative aims to foster a harmonious relationship between your MDW and your household by addressing any potential issues early on.

Interview Schedule

  • First Interview: Conducted within the initial few months of employment.
  • Second Interview: Scheduled during the final months of the MDW’s first year.

Both interviews are compulsory and serve distinct purposes in ensuring your MDW’s well-being throughout her initial year.

Notification and Appointment Process

MOM will notify you via letter and email when your MDW is due for an interview. Upon receiving this notification, you are required to schedule an appointment at a Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) Connect Centre. The notification will include detailed steps to book a suitable timeslot.

Role of Employers

As an employer, it is your responsibility to ensure that your MDW attends the scheduled interviews. Providing her with the necessary time and support to attend these sessions is crucial for her successful integration.

Interview Process

The interviews are conducted by the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) on behalf of MOM. During the session, your MDW will be asked questions pertaining to her well-being, such as her dietary habits, sleep quality, and working conditions. She will also be reminded of her rights and responsibilities as an MDW in Singapore.

Attending the Interview

  • In-Person Attendance: MDWs are required to attend the interviews in person at one of the following CDEConnect Centres:

Woodlands: 900 South Woodlands Drive, Woodlands Civic Centre, #06-10, Singapore 730900 (Nearest MRT: NS9/TE2 Woodlands)

  • Appointment Booking: Schedule the interview in advance to secure a convenient timeslot.

  • Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm (excluding public holidays).

  • Duration: Each interview lasts approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  • Documents to Bring: MDWs should bring their Work Permit card and employment contract (including salary records) to the interview.

Privacy and Conduct

The interview is conducted solely between the CDE officer and your MDW to ensure privacy and candidness. Employers or accompanying persons are not permitted in the interview room but may wait in the designated waiting area. Recording of the interview is strictly prohibited.

Rescheduling or Alternative Arrangements

If rescheduling is necessary or if alternative arrangements are required (e.g., due to caregiving responsibilities), contact CDE at least three working days before the scheduled appointment:

All requests are subject to approval and availability.

By adhering to these guidelines and collaborating with your maid agency, you contribute to the well-being of your MDW and ensure compliance with Singapore’s employment regulations.
